In the first week of January 2025, Lebanon County witnessed a series of food safety inspections conducted by Pennsylvania’s Department of Agriculture. The inspections covered various establishments including restaurants, schools, and retail outlets. Overall, the majority of inspected locations were found to be in compliance with health and safety regulations. However, a few establishments faced minor violations which were promptly addressed and corrected. This report aims to provide an overview of these inspections and highlight the importance of maintaining high standards in food safety.

Inspection Details Reveal Minor Issues at Select Locations

During the inspection period, several notable findings emerged:

  • Penn Jersey (January 11, 2025): Located on Lehman Street in Lebanon, this establishment was cited for unclean dispensing nozzles on its slushy machine. The issue was resolved before the inspector departed.
  • Subway (January 7, 2025): Two Subway locations—one on Main Street in Annville and another on Lancaster Street in Jonestown—were noted for issues ranging from improper hair restraints to outdated ready-to-eat foods. Both locations took immediate corrective actions.
  • Dunkin' (January 6, 2025): Situated on Lincoln Avenue in Myerstown, this coffee shop had concerns related to hair restraints and equipment cleanliness. Staff members cleaned the three-bay sink and food containers as required.
  • Hardee’s (January 6, 2025): Also located on Lincoln Avenue in Myerstown, Hardee’s faced multiple challenges including exposed food in prep areas and plumbing issues. Management implemented temporary measures while awaiting delivery of necessary supplies.

Other establishments such as Bbare Naturals LLC, S. Clyde Weaver, Sriji’s Corner Store, Timber Creek Coffee, Zig’s Bakery & Deli LLC, ELCO High School, ELCO Middle School, Fort Zeller Elementary School, Jackson Elementary School, American Legion Post #880, Cool Beans Brew LLC, Esther’s, and Patches Family Creamery all passed their inspections without any violations.

The inspections serve as a reminder of the critical role that proper hygiene and adherence to safety protocols play in ensuring public health. Establishments must remain vigilant in maintaining clean environments and addressing any potential hazards swiftly.

From a reader’s perspective, these inspections underscore the importance of transparency and accountability in the food service industry. It reassures consumers that local authorities are actively monitoring and enforcing health standards. For businesses, it highlights the need for continuous improvement and strict adherence to guidelines to avoid non-compliance and ensure customer trust.
