Unleashing the Triathlon Spirit: Tri-Kids-Try Ignites Midland's Youth

Midland, Michigan, is gearing up for an exciting event that promises to inspire and empower the city's young athletes. The annual Tri-Kids-Try youth triathlon is set to return to Plymouth Park, offering a thrilling opportunity for children to showcase their athletic prowess and embrace a healthy, active lifestyle.

Empowering Midland's Youth to Reach New Heights

Minis Take the Plunge: Inspiring the Youngest Triathletes

The Tri-Kids-Try event kicks off on Friday, July 19, with the mini-triathlon for ages 3 to 5. These young athletes will take the plunge, swimming across the zero-depth entry section of the pool, before transitioning to the next leg of the race. With the support of their parents and dedicated volunteers, the "minis" will then pedal or push their trikes across the parking lot, culminating in a run around the perimeter of the baseball field towards the finish line. Flotation devices are permitted in the pool, ensuring the safety and comfort of these budding triathletes.

Older Kids, Bigger Dreams: The Main Event Takes Center Stage

The excitement continues on Saturday, July 20, as the older kids, ages 6 to 15, take the stage. The first wave of participants will dive into the Plymouth Park Pool for their respective meter swims, before transitioning to the bike and run portions of the race. This comprehensive triathlon challenge tests the skills and endurance of these young athletes, as they push themselves to new limits.

Preparing for Success: The Tri-Kids-Try Training Camp

In the days leading up to the event, the Greater Midland Community Center hosts a Kids Triathlon Camp, providing participants with the opportunity to hone their skills and prepare for the big day. Under the guidance of experienced coaches, these young triathletes fine-tune their swimming, biking, and running techniques, ensuring they are ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

Celebrating Achievements: The Tri-Kids-Try Awards Ceremony

As the race comes to a close, the Tri-Kids-Try event culminates in an awards ceremony near the baseball field and finish line. The top three boys and girls in each age group (6 to 7, 8 to 9, 10 to 11, 12 to 13, and 14 to 15) will be recognized, as well as the winners in the Open Division (ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 15). This celebration of accomplishments not only rewards the young athletes but also inspires them to continue their triathlon journey.

Fostering Healthy Habits and Confidence

At the heart of Tri-Kids-Try lies the mission to promote health, exercise, and self-esteem among Midland's youth. Race director Jennifer Adomcik emphasizes the event's role in helping children develop essential skills, stay active throughout the year, and build their confidence as they cross the finish line. The joy and smiles on the faces of these young triathletes are a testament to the transformative power of this community-driven initiative.
